{"id":159908,"date":"2024-01-23T04:54:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T04:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/?p=159908"},"modified":"2024-12-13T11:20:21","modified_gmt":"2024-12-13T17:20:21","slug":"education-can-not-ignore-artificial-intelligence-michael-fung","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/tech\/education-can-not-ignore-artificial-intelligence-michael-fung\/","title":{"rendered":"Education Can&#8217;t Ignore Artificial Intelligence: Michael Fung"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jinmichaelfung\/?originalSubdomain=mx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michael Fung<\/a>, Chief Executive Officer of the <a href=\"\/en\/tag\/institute-for-the-future-of-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institute for the Future of Education (IFE)<\/a>, asserted that there are numerous myths surrounding <a href=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Artificial Intelligence (AI)<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, the assumption that AI can replace humans or take over the world continues, even though <strong>AI has severe limits<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fung spoke at the <a href=\"\/en\/tag\/ife-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IFE Conference 2024<\/a> held from January 23 to 25 at the Tec de Monterrey&#8217;s Monterrey Campus, during the conference <em>Global Developments in Higher Education and Lifelong Learning<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fung pointed out a substantial increase in interest in AI, particularly during the pandemic and the emergence of platforms like <a href=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/tech\/chat-gpt-in-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chat GPT<\/a>, even though the idea has been around for more than 50 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the idea that AI may eventually replace humans, Fung highlighted that the existing capabilities of computing systems limit its applicability to content development and comparable tasks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He pointed out that AI is still important to consider in the education sector since it can help with a variety of tasks, including personalized assistance and mentorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;As educational institutions, we cannot ignore these advancements; we must stay vigilant and keep abreast of what is happening to apply AI effectively,&#8221; Fung said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><picture>\r\n                <source srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/01\/inteligencia-artificial-y-educacion-1.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\">\r\n                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/01\/inteligencia-artificial-y-educacion-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-160109\" \/>\r\n            <\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>The IFE Conference will discuss themes such as education and artificial intelligence (Photo: Alejandro Salazar \/ TecScience)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-artificial-intelligence-for-education\"><strong>Artificial Intelligence for Education<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Fung highlighted that a future in which AI replaces human talents is still a long way off since it demands computation levels that are now difficult to achieve with existing technology.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Even systems that produce outcomes and outputs comparable to humans, such as Chat GPT, are not autonomous AI systems. They rely on massive quantities of data processing and algorithms to produce reactions similar to human behavior,&#8221; he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Fung, the primary barrier to AI replacing humans is the divide between thinking and data processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Do not misinterpret me; Artificial Intelligence may be applied extremely well in various settings within educational institutions. &#8220;We have seen an increase in the use of tools such as content generation,&#8221; added Fung.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some promising possibilities for future educational efficiency include student mentorship and customized and specialized assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><picture>\r\n                <source srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/01\/inteligencia-artificial-y-educacion.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\">\r\n                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/01\/inteligencia-artificial-y-educacion.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-160100\" \/>\r\n            <\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Juan Pablo Murra, Dean of Professional and Graduate Studies at Tec de Monterrey, delivered the opening remarks at the IFE Conference. We are confident that education is the most effective method to empower people with the tools they need to live better lives,&#8221; he
