However, AI can have multiple benefits when teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe goal of these technologies is never to replace teachers, but to <strong>empower them,<\/strong>\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gse.upenn.edu\/academics\/faculty-directory\/baker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ryan Baker<\/a>, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, who spoke with <strong><em>TecScience<\/em><\/strong>, after his keynote conference <em>Generative Artificial Intelligence and Education: What is new and what we can do<\/em>, which took place on the second day of <a href=\"\/en\/tag\/ife-conference-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IFE Conference 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Baker studies how generative AI models can be used to improve student learning in online courses.<\/strong> One of his greatest interests is to detect patterns of engagement and disengagement of students to optimize classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, he seeks to expand the spectrum of subjects that can benefit from AI, since it has traditionally been used only in subjects such as calculus, physics or mathematics. Now they have tried it in <strong>biology<\/strong> and <strong>art <\/strong>classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The essential difference between <strong>generative AI<\/strong> and <strong>traditional AI<\/strong> is that traditional systems are mainly used to analyze information and make predictions, while generative AI goes a step further by creating <strong>new data<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, according to research by Baker and his colleagues, for generative AIs to perform at their best, they need a combination of real and synthetic data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><picture>\r\n                <source srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/01\/4.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\">\r\n                <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/01\/4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-160007\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/01\/4.jpg 750w, https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/01\/4-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/>\r\n            <\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Baker explains that the difference between traditional AI and generative AI is thath the latter can create new data. (Photo: Alejandro Salazar \/ TecScience)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-generative-ai-in-classes\"><strong>Generative AI in classes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Focusing on generative artificial intelligences for creating text, such as <a href=\"\/en\/tech\/chat-gpt-in-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ChatGPT<\/a>, Khamingo and JeepyTA, the expert has found that it can be useful for students and teachers in various tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can help students rehearse, in real time, conversations in a language they are learning. It can assist teachers in grading more quickly as well as giving personalized feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure that students are really learning and not just perfecting their homework, teachers can teach them that the prompt \u2013 the instruction they give to the AI \u2013 needs to request that it explain where their mistakes are, so they can correct them, based on a deeper understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey can also ask students to turn in different versions of their assignment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving forward, Baker recommends teachers who are not familiar with AI to start using it for simple tasks that students can really benefit from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf we use these technologies correctly, it will lead to a human-computer system of
