{"id":161023,"date":"2024-03-20T21:50:12","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T21:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/?p=161023"},"modified":"2024-12-13T11:19:13","modified_gmt":"2024-12-13T17:19:13","slug":"nanoadditives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/tech\/nanoadditives\/","title":{"rendered":"Edgar Raygoza\u2019s Project: Industrial Lubricants with Eco-Friendly Nanoadditives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/edgar-david-ramon-raygoza-2a2bb81a?originalSubdomain=mx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Edgar Raygoza<\/a> is leading the way in Mexico by creating <strong>lubricants for industrial machining<\/strong> generated from <strong>nanoadditives<\/strong> that are both <strong>eco-friendly<\/strong> and based on a technology that he began to develop during his doctoral studies at the Tec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Raygoza, who is also the founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/product.statnano.com\/company\/global-nano-additives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Nano Additives<\/a> (GNA), began his graduate studies, he was already focused on creating a <strong>nanofluid<\/strong> that would improve its thermal properties without altering its electrical insulating properties. However, halfway through his doctorate, he switched the focus of his research to the <strong>automotive sector<\/strong> and applied his technology to <strong>motors<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe began to test the first prototypes in very small workshops. Then, we moved up to bigger ones, until we got to the auto part suppliers. Finally, we reached the manufacturers themselves, such as John Deere,\u201d says the business owner, who was <a href=\"\/en\/human-social\/romulo-garza-award-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of the winners<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/tag\/premio-romulo-garza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2023 R\u00f3mulo Garza Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the <strong>nanoadditive<\/strong> technology developed by <strong>Raygoza<\/strong> is protected by <strong>patent applications<\/strong> in Mexico and the United States. (Photo: Alejandro Salazar \/ TecScience)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-were-the-biggest-obstacles-he-faced-in-his-research\"><strong>What Were the Biggest Obstacles he Faced in his Research?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Edgar Raygoza has already explained that improving the lubrication of machinery increases its longevity and efficiency, thus providing an environmental advantage, how was he able to develop the nanoparticles that enabled him to improve this process?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main challenges Raygoza faced was <strong>synthesizing nanoparticles with the desired properties<\/strong>, as these have to be stable and uniformly dispersed throughout the fluid to avoid sedimentation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This involves designing and optimizing synthesis processes that produce these elements with a <strong>suitable chemical composition and morphology.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raygoza and his team were able to modify their surface, which enabled them to <strong>disperse throughout the fluid in a stable manner and maintain their improved properties<\/strong> during usage in industrial applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These nanoparticles form a <strong>protective layer between the cutting attachment and the piece being cut<\/strong>, reducing friction and wear on both. What\u2019s more, their laminar morphology contributes to reducing friction by moving around each other, which extends the <strong>useful life and improves the quality<\/strong> of mechanical parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe discovered a formula, an additive that we synthesized, as well as performing a modification to its surface.
