(Photo: Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey)<br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-did-smart-sensors-come-from-and-what-is-their-application\"><strong>Where Did Smart Sensors Come from and What Is Their Application?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On the topic of where <strong>smart sensors<\/strong> came from and what their <strong>application<\/strong> is, the director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ifelldh.tec.mx\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Living Lab &amp; Data Hub<\/a> said that this idea began to take shape among students taking the concentration in Smart Systems in <strong>2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe project originated from a question: How can we calculate the occupancy in Jubilee&#8217;s gym? We knew it had to be something non-intrusive, without cameras, for example, hence the idea of sensors,\u201d explained Ceballos, who is also part of the <a href=\"\/en\/tag\/school-of-engineering-and-sciences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School of Engineering and Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe <strong>sensors\u2019<\/strong> <strong>purpose<\/strong> is to calculate occupancy in different spaces indirectly,\u201d explained the researcher, who added, \u201cThis project addressed a real need because we know that <strong>Industry 4.0<\/strong> is already part of our era.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is that real need? (Photo: Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-is-working-on-this-multidisciplinary-project\"><strong>Who Is Working on This Multidisciplinary Project?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe project was developed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/tec.mx\/es\/innovacion-y-transformacion\/ingenieria-en-mecatronica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mechatronics <\/a>Laboratory at the Monterrey campus, and Joanna Alvarado Uribe, coordinator of calls and data-driven projects at Data Hub, from the School of Engineering and Sciences, who also is part of the sensor team, acknowledged that multidisciplinary collaboration was key to its development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe students have helped us a lot and the fact that they have experience in artificial intelligence, smart systems, mechatronics, and even entrepreneurship has greatly enriched our progress,\u201d added the researcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>H\u00e9ctor Ceballos explained: \u201cWe conducted the <strong>first tests<\/strong> in the boardrooms in the Rector\u2019s Building, where we were able to obtain various metrics that helped us to move forward with the project.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, successful testing has led to the design of four versions of the case and three versions of the sensor. \u201cWith support from Borregos Tecnol\u00f3gicos and the Tec\u2019s Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, we\u2019re awaiting approval of the sensor <strong>patent to be able to commercialize it<\/strong>,\u201d added Ceballos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><picture>\r\n                <source srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/04\/smart-sensor-tec-de-monterrey-4.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\">\r\n                <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/04\/smart-sensor-tec-de-monterrey-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-162032\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/04\/smart-sensor-tec-de-monterrey-4.jpg 750w, https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/04\/smart-sensor-tec-de-monterrey-4-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/>\r\n            <\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Joanna Alvarado Uribe and H\u00e9ctor Ceballos pose with the sensors developed at the Mechatronics Laboratory on the Monterrey campus.
