over as Chair of global university network <a href=\"https:\/\/universitas21.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Universitas21<\/a> (U21).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garza is <strong>the first Latin American Chair<\/strong> of this global network of 29 universities across the world that fosters collaboration in research, educational innovation, and student experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTaking on this role represents the opportunity to contribute, from Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey and as a network, to strengthen higher education, as well as to work for the academic communities of the U21 member universities,&#8221; Garza expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jenny Dixon, Provost of Universitas 21, said: \u201cWe warmly welcome David and look forward to working with him to continue in our mission to create global citizens and leaders of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHis ethos and drive for international collaboration, alongside his wealth of experience, will hugely benefit our members across the network,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New position in addition to his current role<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David Garza will hold this position in parallel with his role <strong>as Executive President of Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garza became Deputy Chair of U21 in April and Chair on November 1, taking on the role from Professor Shearer West, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the<strong> University of Nottingham.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey is currently <strong>the only Mexican university<\/strong> member of this network and conforms one of two (together with the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile) other members from Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Challenges at Universitas 21<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As U21\u2019s incoming Chair, Garza will lead its next <strong>Annual Network Meeting &amp; Presidential Symposium,<\/strong> due to take place at the University of California Davis, in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference theme will be <strong>\u201cImagining the future of higher education: ensuring equitable and inclusive engagement.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commenting on his new role, David Garza expressed his confidence in the network\u2019s global efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are living in a world of major challenges: climate change, artificial intelligence, <strong>social challenges, and geopolitics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Universitas 21 provides us with a trusted environment <strong>for learning and sharing best practices across global education,<\/strong> research, and higher education leadership to address these challenges and deliver positive impact at greater pace and scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I look forward to working with other universities in the network to ensure the best possible course for all members to achieve our common goals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About David Garza<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David Garza has held academic and leadership positions at Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey <strong>for almost 40 years<\/strong>, including Dean of the School of Engineering, Head of Campus, and Rector, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has also played a key role heading academic innovation initiatives at the institution and has been a research professor <strong>as a member of the faculty of Computer Sciences.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garza is a graduate of Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey itself and holds a PhD in Computer Science from Colorado State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About Universitas 21<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Universitas 21 was formed in 1997 and is a diverse, global network that <strong>brings together 29 universities from the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These research-intensive universities share a common belief in the<strong> value of collaboration and internationalization.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The network has a large concentration (60%) of member universities ranked in the global Top 100 (<a href=\"\/en\/tag\/qs-ranking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">QS<\/a> and THE) <strong>that impact more than one million students and 200,000 professors<\/strong> and staff through collaboration programs, research opportunities, learning, and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among others, these include the National University of Singapore (QS #8), the University of Melbourne (QS #13), the University of Hong Kong (QS #17), the University of Sydney (QS #18), the University of Amsterdam (QS #55), and the University of California Davis (THE #59).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tec de Monterrey\u2019s International Commitment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As well as being Chair of Universitas 21, Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey\u2019s Executive President is a member of the Steering Committee of US accreditor SACSCOC, and the Board of Trustees of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also belongs to the President\u2019s Council of the University of the People and is a <strong>Champion of the World Economic Forum\u2019s Edison Alliance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey also takes part in other international networks, has signed collaboration agreements with more than 10 global Top 200 institutions and universities, <strong>and 50% of its scientific publications <\/strong>are made as part of international collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every year, 7,000 of its students are part of international exchanges, which makes it one of the universities with the most student mobility in the
