{"id":165766,"date":"2024-11-11T15:57:46","date_gmt":"2024-11-11T21:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/?p=165766"},"modified":"2024-11-11T17:49:06","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T23:49:06","slug":"second-international-early-childhood-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/human-social\/second-international-early-childhood-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"Strategies to Transform Early Childhood in Mexico and Latin America"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Early childhood \u2014from birth to the first eight years\u2014 is crucial for a healthy, well-rounded human development. \u201cWe used to think that providing children with education, vaccinations, and a roof over their heads was enough, but it\u2019s not that simple,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/adriana-gidi-1977251b\">Adriana Gidi<\/a>, Associate Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/human-social\/tec-de-monterrey-announces-the-center-for-early-childhood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Early Childhood Center<\/a> at Tec de Monterrey and FEMSA Foundation, in an interview with <strong><em>TecScience<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Gidi, recent research in the field of neuroscience shows that it is important for children to have the necessary services and care, and that they have good quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSometimes, getting a bad education is worse than not receiving one,\u201d says Gidi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How to reduce the effects of adversities \u2014<a href=\"\/en\/health\/adverse-childhood-experiences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">such as abuse, abandonment, violence or toxic stress<\/a>\u2014 at this important stage will be the focus of the second <a href=\"https:\/\/content.tecsalud.mx\/cpi-foro-internacional?hs_preview=SbkarDrh-179255606680\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Early Childhood Forum<\/a>, which will take place from November 20 to 21, 2024 at the Monterrey Campus of Tec de Monterrey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike last year, where the forum focused on the launch of the <a href=\"\/en\/human-social\/center-for-early-childhood-in-latin-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Early Childhood<\/a>, this time the first results of studies that have been carried out at the Center will be presented, as well as the most relevant advances in early childhood research by national and international institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have to change the current paradigm and use scientific evidence to impact early childhood in Mexico and Latin America really positively,\u201d says Manuel P\u00e9rez, director of the Center for Early Childhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"La importancia de los l\u00e1cteos en la nutrici\u00f3n infantil\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0QN7-7ayMMc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Center for Early Childhood&#8217;s First Steps<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In Latin America and the Caribbean, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/lac\/media\/9821\/file\/IdentificarLasDesigualdadesParaActuar_Resumen.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nine out of 10 children between three and four years<\/a> of age are exposed to at least one risk factor, with psychological violence and corporal punishment being the most common, according to the United Nations Children&#8217;s Fund (UNICEF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, innovative measures must be developed in this region to ensure a comfortable childhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the projects that the Center for Early Childhood has been working on -and whose first results will be presented at the Forum- is the development of a national survey to identify the environmental, parental, and care factors that generate adversity in early childhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis work was done in collaboration with the Catholic University of Chile and the National Institute of Public Health,\u201d says P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are also working on a project based on interventions carried out by the Stanford Center on Early Childhood to analyze the quality of caregiver care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEverything that has to do with the psychological and emotional side of care, loving care and protection,\u201d says P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the program will feature interventions by <a href=\"https:\/\/steinhardt.nyu.edu\/people\/hirokazu-yoshikawa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hirokazu Yoshikawa<\/a>, co-director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/globaltiesforchildren.nyu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global TIES for Children<\/a> at New York University (NYU), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chla.org\/profile\/pat-levitt-phd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Patt Levitt<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chla.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Children\u2019s Hospital of Los Angeles<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ed.stanford.edu\/faculty\/philf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Philip Fisher<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/earlychildhood.stanford.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stanford Center on Early Childhood<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/mx.linkedin.com\/in\/nancy-ram%C3%ADrez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nancy Ram\u00edrez<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/savethechildren.mx\/?utm_term=save%20the%20children&amp;utm_campaign&amp;utm_source=adwords&amp;utm_medium=ppc&amp;hsa_acc=1848732810&amp;hsa_cam=21034172367&amp;hsa_grp=164344429652&amp;hsa_ad=691445204829&amp;hsa_src=g&amp;hsa_tgt=kwd-12772160&amp;hsa_kw=save%20the%20children&amp;hsa_mt=b&amp;hsa_net=adwords&amp;hsa_ver=3&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiA88a5BhDPARIsAFj595gshKr-xg6ze-kM11kg3csNM6TJMUGXJ4F-C1knwjjXKagyMOynZiUaAiP9EALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Save the Children<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHiro Yoshikawa is a world leader in early childhood, and he is going to talk to us about how to maximize the use of scientific evidence in policy for early childhood development,\u201d says Gidi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Second International Early Childhood Forum<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through panels and conferences, the Forum will discuss how early childhood is experienced in Mexico and Latin America and the most innovative strategies to reduce the impact of adversities on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Center&#8217;s purpose is the creation of new and better interventions to try to have an impact on families from Mexico and the region,\u201d says Gidi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some topics that will be emphasized will be the experiences of migrant children, the impact of violence and toxic stress, as well as poor transportation services, and how to ensure that caregivers of children are not sources of abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a Center, we want to support the training of a new generation of public authorities and civil society so they know to implement programs that will transform early childhood in the next ten, twenty and thirty years,\u201d says Gidi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, they will analyze success stories of interventions from other countries, such as home visits, to understand which methodologies give the best results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is not just about doing research, but about innovating to propose solutions that really help us have a good early childhood as a country,\u201d says P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Were you interested in this story?
