Mexican cities are growing in both area and population, but while the outskirts are expanding, urban centers are losing residents. This translates into an increasing distance between homes and workplaces, schools, hospitals, and parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This phenomenon was the focus of the Centering the Future<\/strong><\/em> event, organized by the Center for the Future of Cities<\/a> (CFC) at the Mexico City Campus<\/a> of Tec de Monterrey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the meeting, Javier Guzm\u00e1n, Vice President of Research at Tec de Monterrey, expressed that the project represents the institution’s commitment to research that has a positive impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Based on rigorous evidence, this study allows us to understand the transformations that are being implemented in our cities and to open new questions about the urban development models we want to build,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Roberto Ponce<\/a>, research director of the CFC and leader of the project, presented the study they recently published<\/a> in the journal Nature<\/em><\/strong> on the expansion of 69 cities, as well as the interactive platform<\/a> that can be consulted by decision-makers and citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
