{"id":174467,"date":"2026-09-17T13:36:26","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T19:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/?p=174467"},"modified":"2026-09-22T09:50:52","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T15:50:52","slug":"university-dissemination-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/human-social\/university-dissemination-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Tec, UNAM, IPN, and UAM join together to Recognize Those who Disseminate Science"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Promoting research is fundamental for Mexico to move toward a sustainable and equitable future, but it is equally important that this knowledge reaches the public so they can understand and use it in an informed way. An <a href=\"\/es\/premio-divulgacion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">award sponsored by four of the country&#8217;s leading educational institutions<\/a> seeks to recognize the achievements of those dedicated to disseminating knowledge in the sciences, engineering, and humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dissemination is essential for societies because it connects the knowledge produced in laboratories, universities, and research centers with the society that uses, needs, and lives the consequences of that knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This Thursday, September 17, a press conference was held at the Old San Ildefonso College to present the award and invite the public to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the presentation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/pedrocastillonovoa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pedro Castillo<\/a>, leader of the <strong>University Consortiums initiative at Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey<\/strong>, emphasized the importance of science having a greater presence in the public conversation: \u201cIf we talked less about other things that have much less impact and talked more about science and better understood the knowledge we are creating, we would surely transform our country for the better,\u201d Castillo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The University Dissemination Award is jointly promoted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/tec.mx\/es?srsltid=AU7gw4XW6IGYLHLL98Y9Lp3zuOwKDcB3EgW7RdiNOhp1pKBhf_cLo3vO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Monterrey Institute of Technology<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unam.mx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Autonomous University of Mexico<\/a> (UNAM), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipn.mx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Polytechnic Institute<\/a> (IPN) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uam.mx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Metropolitan Autonomous University<\/a> (UAM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative reflects these institutions&#8217; commitment to Mexican society and to synergy across different capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis award is a demonstration of the collaboration between institutions and universities, and it is a call to all science communicators to do better outreach so that they are recognized,\u201d said <strong>Manuel Su\u00e1rez<\/strong>, Director General of Science Outreach (DGDC) at UNAM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/premio-divulgacion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><picture>\r\n                <source srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/leaderboard-1-1.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\">\r\n                <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"970\" height=\"90\" src=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/leaderboard-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-174496\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/leaderboard-1-1.jpg 970w, https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/leaderboard-1-1-300x28.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/leaderboard-1-1-768x71.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/>\r\n            <\/picture><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">You can still apply!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does the University Dissemination Award Recognize?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By adapting specialized knowledge into formats that are understandable and accessible to everyone, dissemination not only promotes knowledge, but also democratizes it. (Photo: In\u00e9s Guti\u00e9rrez Jaber \/ TecScience)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The award seeks to recognize the careers of people committed to dissemination, so instead of rewarding a single story or piece, it distinguishes the careers of those who have carried it out continuously, publicly and free of charge for at least three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, through its category of priority attention groups, it seeks to distinguish people who carry out dissemination activities and belong to groups that face situations of vulnerability, such as women in situations of violence, migrants, older adults and LGBTIQ+ people, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThose who do outreach do it in subway stations, schools, public squares, markets, prisons, with indigenous communities, with people with disabilities, and there is no award in our country that thanks them for this effort;
