(Foto: Imelda Medina \/ REUTERS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>El Mapa de Peligros del Popocat\u00e9petl<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEn el caso de ca\u00edda de ceniza principalmente se distinguieron <strong>tres tipos de escenarios<\/strong> que se seleccionaron sobre la base de los registros hist\u00f3ricos de las actividades pasadas del volc\u00e1n\u201d, comenta la profesora del Tec de Monterrey en la <a href=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/tag\/escuela-de-ingenieria-y-ciencias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Escuela de Ingenier\u00eda y Ciencias<\/a> para <em><strong>TecScience<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el <strong>escenario m\u00e1s catastr\u00f3fico<\/strong>, por ejemplo, la especialista se\u00f1ala que <strong>la ceniza podr\u00eda llegar hasta Cuba<\/strong>. Para realizar estos c\u00e1lculos, la investigadora considera tres factores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEl primero es el viento que no sopla siempre en la misma direcci\u00f3n. El otro par\u00e1metro son las variaciones f\u00edsicas dentro de la atm\u00f3sfera. Despu\u00e9s, las caracter\u00edsticas de las part\u00edculas volc\u00e1nicas: dimensi\u00f3n, forma y composici\u00f3n. Esto determina miles de escenarios\u201d, dice la profesora del Departamento de Tecnolog\u00edas Sostenibles y Civil.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El primer mapa de peligros del volc\u00e1n se elabor\u00f3 en 1995, cuando el Popocat\u00e9petl comenzara actividad nuevamente tras <strong>70 a\u00f1os de inactividad<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin embargo, el nuevo mapa de peligros, <strong>publicado en 2016<\/strong>, consider\u00f3 curvas de probabilidad en distintos escenarios que contemplan el riesgo de la ceniza expulsada, proyectiles bal\u00edsticos, flujos pirocl\u00e1sticos, lahares (flujo de lodo volc\u00e1nico), avalanchas y lavas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>El futuro del volc\u00e1n <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Durante 2014, este volc\u00e1n localizado en M\u00e9xico comenz\u00f3 a tener actividad con dispersi\u00f3n de ceniza como la que tuvo a finales de mayo de 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hace dos mil a\u00f1os, cuenta la especialista, el volc\u00e1n tuvo erupciones plinianas (asociadas al magma) que expulsaron columnas de ceniza de m\u00e1s de 20 kil\u00f3metros. Sabiendo estos datos, ella logr\u00f3 hacer estudios estad\u00edsticos para calcular qu\u00e9 pasar\u00eda con la dispersi\u00f3n de ceniza en un caso similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo se puede saber con certeza matem\u00e1tica qu\u00e9 actividad va a tener el volc\u00e1n en el futuro, entonces, vamos a tratar de <strong>simular todos los escenarios para calcular la probabilidad y a d\u00f3nde se puede dirigir la ceniza y d\u00f3nde se va a concentrar<\/strong>\u201d, explica Bonasia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El 21 de mayo pasado, el Popocat\u00e9petl entr\u00f3 a sem\u00e1foro amarillo Fase 3 debido a su actividad. Sin embargo, con el af\u00e1n de tranquilizar a la poblaci\u00f3n, la doctora Bonasia enfatiza que el volc\u00e1n est\u00e1 teniendo una actividad completamente normal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El martes 6 de junio, la Coordinaci\u00f3n Nacional de Protecci\u00f3n Civil (CNPC) determin\u00f3 retroceder a Amarillo Fase 2 el sem\u00e1foro de alerta
