La actividad humana genera residuos que pueden terminar en vertederos de basura o en el ambiente, por ejemplo, los medicamentos que consumimos y que al ser desechados por nuestros cuerpos terminan en cuerpos de agua, como r\u00edos y oc\u00e9anos.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recientemente, cient\u00edficos e investigadores han estudiado los efectos que tienen estos medicamentos, como los antidepresivos<\/strong>, en la naturaleza y en los animales que viven en el agua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juan Eduardo Sosa<\/a>, investigador del Tec de Monterrey en el Institute of Advance Materials for Sustainable Manufacturing<\/a>, se\u00f1ala que los humanos se apoyan en medicamentos con compuestos qu\u00edmicos que no siempre son metabolizados y terminan en los desag\u00fces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A pesar de que existen procesos de tratamiento de aguas residuales<\/a> en algunas urbes, estos medicamentos impactan en organismos acu\u00e1ticos como crust\u00e1ceos, almejas y otras especies, afectando adem\u00e1s las cadenas alimentarias y la salud de los ecosistemas acu\u00e1ticos<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Antidepresivos en el agua y su impacto en ecosistemas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

En la investigaci\u00f3n llamada Antidepressant drugs as emerging contaminants: Occurrence in urban and non urban waters and analytical methods for their detection<\/em><\/a>, Sosa, junto con un grupo de investigadores del Tec y la Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Nuevo Le\u00f3n, explica que existen t\u00e9cnicas avanzadas de biomarcadores que se utilizan para detectar sustancias espec\u00edficas y evaluar su impacto en el medio ambiente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por ejemplo, como la fluoxetina, usada para combatir trastornos de depresi\u00f3n<\/a> en las personas, tiene un impacto en especies de peces como la Argyrosomus regius <\/em>que durante una exposici\u00f3n de 15 d\u00edas de un microgramo por mililitro, afecta su crecimiento, inhibe sus mecanismos de desintoxicaci\u00f3n y da\u00f1a el ADN en su h\u00edgado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El uso de estos biomarcadores ha permitido conocer el impacto de otras sustancias como sertralina, citalopram, duloxetina, que son recetadas como antidepresivos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los investigadores tambi\u00e9n analizaron los intentos de degradaci\u00f3n de estos qu\u00edmicos mediante diversos m\u00e9todos, como la depuraci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica por lodos o barros o sistemas que usan luz ultravioleta, entre otros.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ninguno de estos procesos ha sido reportado con una efectividad total del 100%, aunque algunos han llegado hasta entre el 95% y el 99% de eliminaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La pandemia, un aumento en el problema y una b\u00fasqueda de soluciones<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sosa explica que con la pandemia hubo un incremento del uso de estos medicamentos, as\u00ed que comenzaron a estudiar m\u00e1s a detalle qu\u00e9 impactos tendr\u00e1n en los ecosistemas marinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPoco a poco iban saliendo algunos reportes de colegas que hac\u00edan tambi\u00e9n estudios en campo y notaron lo mismo, la gente usando m\u00e1s antidepresivos y teniendo un impacto en el agua y en los animales\u201d, dice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otro de los aspectos compartidos por el investigador, es que el problema de la falta de agua y el estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico, ha ocasionado que los r\u00edos y lagos sean cada vez m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os, haciendo que la concentraci\u00f3n de estos qu\u00edmicos sea mayor, lo que puede acelerar el impacto en los ecosistemas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actualmente, Sosa trabaja con otros investigadores en el uso de microalgas<\/a> o crust\u00e1ceos como el llamado Daphnia, que pueden atrapar y transformar estas sustancias, como si metabolizan los qu\u00edmicos y reducidas a di\u00f3xido de carbono\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo solo tenemos que trabajar para estar m\u00e1s atentos en la detecci\u00f3n, sino tambi\u00e9n para hacer que los tratamientos de agua sean mejores y que el reuso de esta sea un proceso m\u00e1s natural y seguro\u201d, dice Sosa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
