As\u00ed lo confirma un <a href=\"https:\/\/news.northwestern.edu\/stories\/2025\/08\/what-makes-a-superager\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cuarto de siglo de investigaci\u00f3n liderada por cient\u00edficos de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Northwestern<\/a>, en Estados Unidos, centrada en los llamados superagers, personas mayores cuya capacidad cognitiva desaf\u00eda las expectativas del envejecimiento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El estudio, que se publica en la revista Alzheimer\u2019s &amp; Dementia, <a href=\"https:\/\/alz-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/alz.70312\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">re\u00fane los hallazgos m\u00e1s relevantes de 25 a\u00f1os de trabajo cl\u00ednico y neuropatol\u00f3gico<\/a>. Su publicaci\u00f3n forma parte de un n\u00famero especial que conmemora el 40\u00ba aniversario del Programa de Centros de la Enfermedad de Alzheimer del Instituto Nacional sobre el Envejecimiento y los 25 a\u00f1os del Centro Nacional de Coordinaci\u00f3n del Alzheimer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los investigadores definen a los <em><a href=\"\/es\/salud\/estudios-sobre-envejecimiento\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">superagers<\/a><\/em> como personas de 80 a\u00f1os o m\u00e1s cuya memoria epis\u00f3dica \u2014es decir, la capacidad de recordar eventos y experiencias pasadas\u2014 es comparable a la de personas tres d\u00e9cadas m\u00e1s j\u00f3venes. Esta extraordinaria capacidad, lejos de ser un mero capricho biol\u00f3gico, est\u00e1 vinculada a un perfil cerebral distintivo y a ciertos rasgos de personalidad que podr\u00edan inspirar nuevas estrategias para preservar la salud cognitiva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>No solo es posible tener una memoria excepcional en la vejez, sino que est\u00e1 relacionada con caracter\u00edsticas neurobiol\u00f3gicas \u00fanicas<\/strong>\u201d, explica <a href=\"https:\/\/www.feinberg.northwestern.edu\/faculty-profiles\/az\/profile.html?xid=16414\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sandra Weintraub<\/a>, profesora de psiquiatr\u00eda y neurolog\u00eda en la Universidad Northwestern y autora principal del art\u00edculo. \u201cEsto abre la puerta a intervenciones dirigidas a conservar la funci\u00f3n cerebral incluso en las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas de vida\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"El costo de un cerebro infeliz\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2BVpkSy0B70?start=10&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">C\u00f3mo envejece el cerebro: esto mostraron 300 participantes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Desde el a\u00f1o 2000, el Centro Mesulam de Neurolog\u00eda Cognitiva y Enfermedad de Alzheimer ha estudiado a 290 participantes dentro de su proyecto superagers. Hasta la fecha, 77 de ellos han donado sus cerebros para su an\u00e1lisis <em>post mortem<\/em>, lo que ha permitido comprender mejor los factores que protegen frente al deterioro cognitivo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En algunos casos, los cient\u00edficos detectaron la presencia de placas amiloides y ovillos de prote\u00edna tau \u2014los marcadores cl\u00e1sicos del Alzh\u00e9imer\u2014, pero sorprendentemente estos elementos no siempre afectaban a la memoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Weintraub resume as\u00ed las dos posibles explicaciones: algunas de estas personas presentan resistencia, es decir, no desarrollan las prote\u00ednas asociadas al Alzh\u00e9imer; otros, en cambio, muestran resiliencia, ya que s\u00ed las presentan, pero no provocan da\u00f1os funcionales en su cerebro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A nivel estructural, los <strong>cerebros de los \u2018superancianos\u2019 no muestran el adelgazamiento de la corteza cerebral t\u00edpico del envejecimiento<\/strong>. Incluso presentan una corteza cingulada anterior \u2014una regi\u00f3n clave para la toma de decisiones, la motivaci\u00f3n y las emociones\u2014 m\u00e1s gruesa que la de personas m\u00e1s j\u00f3venes. Adem\u00e1s, estos individuos poseen un n\u00famero superior de neuronas relacionadas con el comportamiento social, y c\u00e9lulas entorrinales m\u00e1s grandes, esenciales para la memoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aunque sus estilos de vida var\u00edan en cuanto a ejercicio f\u00edsico o alimentaci\u00f3n, los \u2018superancianos\u2019, comparten un rasgo com\u00fan: una <strong>intensa vida social<\/strong>. Su equipo realiza un seguimiento anual de los participantes e invita a quienes lo deseen a donar su cerebro tras la muerte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMuchos de los hallazgos de este trabajo han sido posibles gracias a las donaciones de cerebros de superagers que fueron seguidos durante d\u00e9cadas\u201d, destaca Tamar Gefen, coautora del estudio y directora del Laboratorio de Neuropsicolog\u00eda Traslacional de Northwestern. \u201cLa donaci\u00f3n cerebral permite descubrimientos incluso despu\u00e9s de la muerte, ofreciendo una forma de inmortalidad cient\u00edfica\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los investigadores esperan que el conocimiento acumulado durante estos 25 a\u00f1os no solo ayude a redefinir el envejecimiento saludable, sino que tambi\u00e9n sirva para dise\u00f1ar nuevas estrategias de prevenci\u00f3n frente a enfermedades neurodegenerativas como el Alzheimer o la demencia frontotemporal. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agenciasinc.es\/Noticias\/Como-llegar-a-los-80-anos-con-un-cerebro-de-50-los-superagers-desafian-al-envejecimiento\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(AGENCIA SINC)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u00bfTe interes\u00f3 esta historia? \u00bfQuieres publicarla?
