Brunkow (Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle, Estados Unidos), Fred Ramsdell (Sonoma Biotherapeutics, San Francisco, Estados Unidos) y Shimon Sakaguchi (Universidad de Osaka, Jap\u00f3n), \u201cpor sus descubrimientos <strong>sobre la tolerancia inmunitaria perif\u00e9rica\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El sistema inmunitario es una herramienta poderosa que nos protege frente a miles de microorganismos diferentes cada d\u00eda. Pero debe mantenerse bajo control: si sus mecanismos de defensa se desregulan, puede atacar los propios \u00f3rganos y tejidos del cuerpo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los tres galardonados han sido reconocidos por identificar c\u00f3mo se regula este equilibrio. Sus hallazgos revelaron la existencia de las c\u00e9lulas T reguladoras, las \u2018guardianas\u2019 del sistema inmunitario, que impiden que nuestras propias defensas se vuelvan contra nosotros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSus descubrimientos han sido decisivos para comprender c\u00f3mo funciona el sistema inmunitario y por qu\u00e9 no todos desarrollamos graves enfermedades autoinmunes\u201d, se\u00f1al\u00f3 Olle K\u00e4mpe, presidente del Comit\u00e9 <a href=\"\/es\/tag\/premio-nobel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nobel<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><picture>\r\n                <source srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/10\/nobel-medicina-int.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\">\r\n                <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/10\/nobel-medicina-int.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-179986\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/10\/nobel-medicina-int.jpg 750w, https:\/\/tecscience.tec.mx\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/10\/nobel-medicina-int-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/>\r\n            <\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Los descubrimientos de Brunkow, Ramsdell y Sakaguchi dieron origen al campo de la tolerancia perif\u00e9rica, que abri\u00f3 nuevas v\u00edas terap\u00e9uticas.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Los descubrimientos premiados<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1995, el inmun\u00f3logo japon\u00e9s Shimon Sakaguchi (1951, doctor en Medicina y en Filosof\u00eda por la Universidad de Kioto) desafi\u00f3 la idea dominante de que la tolerancia inmunitaria solo se deb\u00eda a la eliminaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas peligrosas en el timo \u2014un proceso conocido como tolerancia central\u2014. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Descubri\u00f3 una nueva clase de c\u00e9lulas inmunitarias, <strong>las c\u00e9lulas T reguladoras<\/strong>, que protegen al organismo de las enfermedades autoinmunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, en 2001, los investigadores estadounidenses Mary E. Brunkow (1961, doctora por la Universidad de Princeton) y Fred Ramsdell (1960, doctor por la Universidad de California en Los \u00c1ngeles) realizaron el segundo hallazgo clave. Estudiando una cepa de ratones especialmente vulnerable a enfermedades autoinmunes, identificaron una mutaci\u00f3n en el gen Foxp3, y demostraron que alteraciones en su equivalente humano causan una enfermedad autoinmune grave llamada IPEX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 2003, Sakaguchi uni\u00f3 ambas l\u00edneas de investigaci\u00f3n al demostrar que <strong>el gen Foxp3 controla el desarrollo de las c\u00e9lulas T reguladoras.<\/strong> Estas c\u00e9lulas vigilan la actividad del sistema inmunitario y garantizan que el organismo tolere sus propios tejidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los descubrimientos de Brunkow, Ramsdell y Sakaguchi dieron origen al campo de la tolerancia perif\u00e9rica, que abri\u00f3 nuevas v\u00edas terap\u00e9uticas para<strong> <a href=\"\/es\/salud\/terapias-avanzadas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tratar el c\u00e1ncer,<\/a> las enfermedades autoinmunes y mejorar los trasplantes<\/strong> de \u00f3rganos. Varias de las terapias inspiradas en este mecanismo se encuentran actualmente en ensayos cl\u00ednicos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El premio, dotado con 11 millones de coronas suecas (935,000 euros,) ser\u00e1 compartido a partes iguales entre los tres galardonados.
