Tecnológico de Monterrey has been ranked as the fourth-best university in the region and the first in Mexico, according to the QS World University Rankings: Latin America and The Caribbean 2024.
These rankings evaluate eight indicators: Academic Reputation, Citations per Paper, Faculty Student Ratio, International Research Network, Staff with PhD Ratio, Papers per Faculty, Web Impact, and Employer Reputation. In total, the institution received a score of 95.4 points this year.
“I’m very satisfied that Tec de Monterrey is celebrating its 80 years and keeping its place in rankings such as the QS World University Rankings. It is a recognition of the efforts of the Tec community and the commitment that the Institution has made to research as a source of opportunities and innovative solutions for the economic, social, and environmental development of our country,” said Guillermo Torre, Vice President of Research at Tecnológico de Monterrey and Rector of the TecSalud system.
The Importance of Research
This year, 11 new universities were added to the rankings, bringing the total number of participating institutions to 430, of which 63 are Mexican. For this classification, aspects related to the impact of education and research, reputation, and quality of faculty are evaluated.
One of the improvements this year was employer reputation, which rose two positions from last year.
For his part, Neil Hernández Gress, Director of Research at Tecnológico de Monterrey, highlighted that the Employer Reputation indicator continues to be the best qualified for the Institution, occupying position number five and representing 20% of the evaluation.
“This indicator is a reflection of the performance of the community of the more than 300,000 graduates of the Institution, as a result of an educational model with a national presence, global vision, and a distinctive focus on entrepreneurship.”
Hernández Gress also pointed out that in the Citations per Paper indicator, the Tec continues to be the number 1 university in Mexico by having several citations (9.9) for research papers above the average in Latin America (5.3).
“This indicator considers Scopus publications from 2017-2021 and citations to said publications from 2017-2022,” added Tec de Monterrey’s Research Director.
Web Impact, which measures the application of new technologies, went up by six places; and its position for Staff with PhD ratio went up by five places. Regarding Papers per Faculty, there was an increase of three positions.
