Tecnológico de Monterrey ranks among the top institutions in Mexico and Latin America in the THE Impact Rankings 2025, thanks to its progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The university holds the number one spot in Latin America, a position it shares with Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC); the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil; and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), with which it also ties for first place nationally. Globally, Tec appears in the 101–200 band, with an overall score of 86.8 points.
The list is published by Times Higher Education (THE) and assesses the global positive impact of universities based on their alignment with the 17 SDGs laid out in the UN’s 2030 Agenda. Established in 2015, these goals aim to guide the world toward a more sustainable future by addressing pressing challenges such as poverty, education, equality, and hunger.

In addition, the university inaugurated Núcleo, the new district energy center that supplies energy services to the Monterrey campus.
Methodology for Measuring Universities’ Impact
To be ranked, participating universities must be evaluated in at least four SDGs, with SDG 17—Partnerships for the Goals—being mandatory. The other three goals are chosen freely by each institution, meaning not all universities are assessed across the full set of SDGs.
Each SDG is evaluated based on indicators that measure the university’s sustainability impact in four areas: research, responsible management, community engagement, and teaching.
A university’s overall score is calculated by combining its SDG 17 score with its three highest scores from the remaining SDGs. The final ranking is based on the average of the total scores from the past two years.
In this edition, Tec participated in the assessment of 16 SDGs, with the exception of SDG 14 – Life Below Water. Its overall score was 86.8 points.
The 2025 edition of the THE Impact Rankings included 2,318 universities from 125 countries.
