Tec improves its positions in areas and disciplines in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025

The British evaluator Quacquarelli Symonds has published the 2025 edition of this ranking, which assesses universities across five broad subject areas and 55 disciplines.

Tecnológico de Monterrey has secured a spot in the global Top 100 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 in two key academic areas: Social Sciences & Management (ranked 35th) and Engineering & Technology (ranked 58th).

This ranking evaluates the impact and quality of research, academic reputation, and employer recognition.

Additionally, the university placed 29 of its disciplines—one more than last year—among the 55 assessed. Four are ranked within the global Top 50, and ten made it into the Top 100.

The QS Ranking by Subject 2025 maintained the same 55 disciplines from the previous edition, grouped into five broad subject areas. This year, 5,203 institutions from 148 countries were analyzed, with 1,747 in the global ranking.

10 Tec disciplines ranked in the Top 100 of the QS Rankings by Subject 2025

This year, Tec de Monterrey secured 10 disciplines within the Top 100 of the global rankings—one more than last year. Four of these disciplines are ranked among the world’s Top 50. The subjects in which the university stood out are:

  • Business & Management Studies (Rank 21)
  • Marketing (Rank 25)
  • Art & Design (Rank 40)
  • History of Art (Ranked in the 21-50 band)

Top 100

  • Accounting & Finance (Rank 58)
  • Education (Rank 65)
  • Computer Science & Information Systems (Rank 80)
  • Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing (Rank 91)
  • Architecture (Rank 51-100)
  • Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (Rank 51-100)

Out of the 29 subjects that Tec de Monterrey placed in the rankings, nine moved up compared to last year. Additionally, four disciplines made their debut: History of Art, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, Materials Science, and Statistics & Operational Research.

Tec de Monterrey’s Performance in Mexico and Latin America

At the regional level, Tec de Monterrey ranks within the Top 15 across all five broad subject areas in the QS rankings, with two of them making it into the Top 3. The university holds the first spot in Latin America for Engineering & Technology, while Social Sciences & Management ranks 3rd. These are followed by Natural Sciences (10th place), Arts & Humanities (12th place), and Life Sciences & Medicine (13th place) in the region.

Additionally, the university holds the first position in Latin America in eight subjects: Computer Science & Information Systems, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, Architecture, Art & Design, History of Art, Accounting & Finance, Business & Management Studies, and Marketing.

In Mexico, the university ranks first in Engineering & Technology and holds the second position in all other broad subject areas. When it comes to specific disciplines, Tec de Monterrey is ranked first in 14 out of the 29 ranked subjects at the national level, second in another 14 disciplines, and holds a third-place ranking in one discipline.

Research and Reputation: Tec de Monterrey Improves in Key Subject Areas

This global ranking is conducted by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British company specializing in education, which evaluates universities across five broad areas of knowledge and 55 specific disciplines. The methodology considers indicators such as Citations per Paper, H-Index Citations (which measures the relationship between research productivity and citation impact), International Research Network, Academic Reputation, and Employer Reputation.

Based on these indicators, Tecnológico de Monterrey improved its position in four subject areas in this edition. Among its highest-ranked fields worldwide, Social Sciences & Management moved up one spot to 35th place, achieving an overall score of 81.3 out of 100, while Engineering & Technology climbed three places to reach 58th place with a score of 78.6.

Other areas also showed improvement compared to the previous year. Life Sciences & Medicine made a significant jump of 19 positions, securing the 375th spot with a score of 60.2. Meanwhile, Natural Sciences advanced from the 401-450 band to 385th place, earning a score of 63.2. In addition, Arts & Humanities is currently ranked 212th, with a score of 67.5.
